Van de Amerikaanse popgroep Lovin’ Spoonful is een verzamelbox uitgekomen die is vernoemd naar een van hun grote hits: ‘What a Day for a Daydream: The Complete Recordings 1965-1969’.
Die bevat zeven cd’s met daarop maar liefst 170 nummers van drummer Joe Butler, bassist Steve Boone, zanger-gitarist Zal Yanovsly en zanger, gitarist en mondharmonicaspeler John Sebastian.
Daar maken vanzelfsprekend hun studioalbums ‘Do You Believe In Magic’ (1965), ‘Daydream’(1966), ‘Hums of the Lovin’ Spoonful’(1966) en ‘Everything Playing’ (1967) deel van uit, in zowel mono als stereo.
Verder zijn hun twee soundtracks opgenomen in stereoversies: ‘The Lovin’ Spoonful in Woody Allen’s ‘What’s Up Tiger Lily?’‘(1966) en ‘You’re a Big Boy Now’ (1967).
Ook het laatste studioalbum maakt er uiteraard deel van uit, al werd ‘Revelation Revolution ‘69’ opgenomen na het vertrek uit de groep van John Sebastian en zat drummer Butler achter de knoppen.
Ook bevat de box het in 1968 door Yanovsky opgenomen soloalbum ‘Alive and Well in Argentina’ en stereo- en monoversies van nummers die verschenen op ‘Waht’s Shakin’ een compilatie uit 1966 op het label Elektra.
De monomixen komen hiermee voor het eerst uit.
