Young at heart.

In the twelve original songs on his second CD Bruce Brittain combines jazz, rock and ballads. The latter balance between melancholy and sentimentality, with country influences in themes and style of singing.

Brittain proves to be a versatile writer and musician, who sometimes has trouble keeping tune in slower songs in the exact way Willy Nelson has. That grants these songs, played and produced with  David Leonard, a sympathetic lining, because Brittain’s joy in playing is abundantly clear all the time.

His personality and experience also appear from the lyrics: the title song describes the advantages of a plus-size lover, Woman of a Certain Age deals with a woman that became more interesting rather than older and Sundown In Sun City is about a lonely granddad in one of these American old age pensioners’paradises.

Despite the sometimes tinny-sounding computer drums Brittain proves to be a very lively storyteller that way.
