In het eerste kwartaal van 2013 steeg de totale Britse muziekverkoop, zo maakte de British Phonographic Industry en de Official Charts Company bekend. Dat is de eerste keer sinds het vierde kwartaal van 2009 en daarom is een stijging van 1,4 procent vergeleken met het eerste kwartaal van 2012 dus nieuws.
De totale verkoop kwam daarmee op 23,3 miljoen pond (bijna 26.800.000 euro).
Gedownloade albums besloegen 38,5 procent van de omzet en dat is maar liefst 17,5 procent meer dan vorig jaar en de verkoop van fysieke cd’s daalde met 7,2 procent. De verkoop van vinyl steeg spectaculair al bleef het marktaandeel marginaal: de stijging bedroeg maar liefst 78,1 procent.
